Mystery Quilt Introduction
We would like to invite you to join us in
making the 2011 Mystery Quilt. We have pulled together ideas from
many sources. We have built and re-built this quilt until we are
sure you will be delighted with this charming top. We were able to
build this top out of our collective stashes so we may have over
estimated yardage but not by much. ;) We are sending out the
fabric requirements this month so you can begin to gather and label
possible fabric choices. The first block pattern and instructions will
be in the March Newsletter. We will then continue with the mystery
until October. You can jump in any time by checking out the
newsletter on the web site. We will bring a few printed copies of
the ôpattern of the monthö to the monthly guild meeting.
Finished Size: 51»" x 51»"
Fabric
Requirements:
1 » yards of medium floral print fabric
with a dark background. Fabric should have a variety of colors or shades
to compliment the pieced blocks. This floral fabric will be used
for outer border and four alternating blocks. We will call this
our focus fabric.
5 fat quarters for pieced blocks.
We suggest four of the five quarters be very small scale tone-on- tone
patterns, polka dots, Moda marbles, or blender fabrics that are
reflected in the floral focus fabric. Your choices should be
labeled as follows:
(1) Dark Color
(2) Light Color
(3) Medium (bright)
(4) Medium (marbled)
(5) Complimentary small floral with light background.
»
yard non-directional small print or blender that reads as a solid
and coordinates with a color in the floral focus fabric.
1 »
yards of light tone-on-tone patterned fabric whose color is
reflected in focus fabric.
1 yard of dark plain fabric (Kona) or
dark tone-on-tone small print fabric that matches the dark background on
the floral focus fabric.
We recommend not washing fabrics but if you
are using washed stash fabrics, always use starch or spray sizing before
cutting. We found that very stable fabric aided construction. All
seams should be a scant 1⁄4 inch.
We will offer cutting and piecing tips
throughout the months of this mystery quilt so beginners will be
comfortable participating.
Marcia Hohn of Quilters Cache is providing us
with some of our public domain traditional blocks. Each block used
from her site will have her address for you to check out online.
